Many people ask me what is the difference between a Psychic, Intuitive, Clairvoyant, Medium, Trance Medium and a Channel. Also, the differences between the different tools psychics use such as Tarot, Runes, Palmistry, Astrology, Numerology etc. In this article, I will endeavour to explain simply the differences. As well as what to expect from each type of reading.
Everyone in the world is psychic and intuitive to some degree. It is often known as our sixth sense and in reality, is made up of combining all our senses. Animals are very sensitive, they sense things and they act on their senses. We, over the millennia, have learned to rationalise and rely more on our minds than our senses. Like any other muscle in the body if you don't use it you lose it. Everyone is intuitive to a degree and the more you use and trust your intuition the more successful your life usually is. Being Psychic is a person with a very well developed intuitive sense.
A Clairvoyant means someone who sees things. Clairvoyance means 'clear seeing'. It is HOW a Psychic or Medium receives their information. The term Clairvoyant is generally used to include other methods of receiving information such as Clairaudience 'clear hearing' and Clairsentience 'clear sensing/feeling', Claircognient 'clear thoughts', Clairgustient 'clear taste'. Most Psychics and Mediums will use a combination of all the "Clair's in receiving their information. It means that an intuitive, psychic or medium sees pictures in their mind's eye which they interpret and through which they give messages. Sometimes they may see something that seems real. Real enough to reach out and touch and often people mistake this for "imagining" something, but usually, it is an impression or an image in their mind. Most people do this at some point in their lives or another, usually when extremely relaxed. A psychic who receives information Clairvoyantly is not necessarily a Medium and a Medium who receives messages clairvoyantly is not necessarily psychic. One thing they both have in common is that they can tune in and out (or turn the ability on or off) at will, whereas most people don't.
A Psychic is someone who has a well developed 'Clair' or all the 'Clair's. They are particularly sensitive people and are able to 'intuitively' sense things about others and about what is happening in peoples lives. They usually have a lot of their own life experience and are able to offer guidance and advice to others. They will often be able to see (with one or all the Clair's) into the past, present and future and KNOW about things happening. The more you practice developing your intuition the more psychic you will become. Most psychics will use tools such as Tarot, Oracle Card, Runes, Pendulums etc. If you want information about your life ie this lifetime about career, relationships, finances etc., then you need a psychic reading.
A Medium is someone who can connect to a discarnate Spirit. Whether that spirit is a deceased loved one, a wise being who has had a number of lifetimes known as a Spirit Guide or an Ascended Master, i.e. a super wise being such as Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, St. Germain, etc. These are all spirits of people who have lived human lifetimes. Often the confusion arises because within the spiritualist movement people usually refer to 'An Evening of Clairvoyance' which is in fact an evening when a Medium will give Clairvoyant messages from deceased loved ones, giving proof of life after death. Most deceased loved ones know no more about your life and purpose than you do. Therefore, if you want proof of life after death and information from a deceased loved one then you need a mediumship reading with a Medium.
A Trance Medium/Channel is someone who allows themselves to be used as a Channel for Spirit. They relax their body and their mind and allow a discarnate spirit to speak through them. This is often called Channeling. In a deep trance, this can sometimes mean that the Medium's physical features may change, or their voice may change as a spirit enters their body and speaks through them. Most often this is a Spirit Guide, an Ascended Master or even non-human energies such as Angels. Voices and features do not always change. I certainly asked my guides and angels not to change my voice or features when I work because it frightened my clients. Alternatively, the method used to channel information can be what is known as Automatic Writing, where a medium's pen seems to have a mind of its own and information is channelled that way rather than through voice. If you want information from your spirit guide or the angels about your life and soul purpose then you need a trance medium.
More confusion arises because not all psychics are mediums let alone trance mediums and not all mediums and trance mediums are psychic. However, many will develop both psychic and mediumistic skills with practice and will use both when giving readings. One issue is when making mediumistic connections mediums need to be able to connect at different vibrational levels. Deceased loved ones are closest to us and vibrate at a lower vibration than, ascended masters and angels vibrate at an even higher vibration. All psychics and mediums will have their own personal vibrations and will have a natural affinity to connect to different vibrations. Some connect more easily to the higher vibrations of angels and others to lower vibrations of loved ones. This does not make one medium better than another they just have a different focus. With practice, and working hard on themselves, many will be able to connect at many different levels. Over the years I have developed all of the above abilities and can connect at all levels. I have also accumulated knowledge of a large variety of tools and use them all in my readings.
What to expect from different types of readings
In a Psychic reading including those using psychic divination tools such as Tarot, Oracle Cards, Runes, Crystal Balls etc you will receive information and guidance about your life, past, present and future whether it comes psychically, clairvoyantly or mediumistically.
In a Mediumship reading, you can expect to receive messages from deceased loved ones, giving proof of life after death. Often a deceased loved one knows nothing more about your life in the future or your soul's plan than you do and often less.
In a reading using Trance skills, you will be given messages from Spirit Guides about this lifetime, ie career, relationships, finances and this life's purpose. If you want information about your soul's purpose both in this lifetime and past and future lifetimes, then you need to have a reading with someone who connects on the Angelic level. To add to the confusion many Psychics and Mediums such as myself work with their spirit guides in a light trance as well as their divination tools such as Tarot as they use all their skills to give you the most in-depth guidance possible, as I do.
Other types of readings - All the above are intuitive right-brained styles of reading. There are also other scientific left-brained styles of readings such as Astrology, Numerology, Graphology, Palmistry. These comprise knowledge that is learned by those interested in studying them. Many of these types of tools are studied and learned ie a life path number of 4 = x. Or the planet Jupiter in Leo in the birth chart means y. Plus all the other influences mean something that is pre-determined. The skill and accuracy of the reading depend upon the reader's knowledge not psychic or mediumistic ability. However, that said, many Astrologers, Numerologists, Palmists, etc., as the practice interpreting the science do also develop a high level of intuition and psychic abilities, although rarely mediumistic unless they were already a medium.
