Numerology is studied and used around the world including Arabia, China, India and Israel where it has developed over time in different ways but the similarities suggest it comes from one original source. Pythagoras believed each number has its own vibration representing universal and divine realities and are reflected on this plane through an expression at the personality level. Each of the nine numbers reflects those divine qualities in a very definite and precise way.

Their meanings don’t change irrespective of where they appear. Only the application of their meanings in the interpretation of how they are expressed within the personality will alter their significance. General Meanings of each of the Numbers

ZERO

There is not much written about Zero. It was first used in India to signify nothing but in 9th century it started being treated as a number in its own right. Certainly, today we would be in trouble if it wasn’t considered to be a number as all our computers run on Zero and One. From an esoteric perspective, it is thought to represent ‘Perfection’ Wholeness, the Ultimate. For our purposes, we can consider it has a dual meaning either nothing or everything.

ONE

Is about new beginnings. originating impulse behind any activity, gives focus, initiative and a sense of direction. It is unique and encompasses assertiveness and independence. It brings inspiration and strives to move forward. It brings motivation, courage and leadership which is the start of manifestation. It is one of the most positive numbers.

TWO

Is about union or the introduction of another element into the situation. It is also about duality. It is thought to be, the womb from which all thoughts are nurtured and may also be related to the unconscious mind. Two can also signify the need to balance opposing forces.

THREE

Expands the theme involved in the reading. In a relationship reading it can indicate a third party being involved. Three is also about how we outwardly express our inner desire. Three is often considered to be the generator that inspires our creative energy and motivates us into manifesting our desires. Three is enthusiastic and optimistic.

FOUR

Is stability, hard work and perseverance. More effort may be needed to achieve our desired outcomes. Four is where the hard work happens to bring the thought of One with the emotion of Two and the creative energy of Three into the physical world.

FIVE

Is about travel and movement and changing circumstances that we may not want but could be beneficial anyway. Five is the number of the reactionary. It hates to be held down, restricted or imprisoned and thus gives expansion and demands change, freedom and independence to experience life to the full. Therefore, Five, often signifies struggle.

SIX

Is the number of peace and harmony, when balance is restored. Of success after the struggles of five. It is the number of the heart and the home, of family, security and love. Its principle is that of care, service, duty and responsibility.

SEVEN

Represents the wisdom seeker, the search for inner truth. Not everything is exactly as it seems. Seven is introspective and seeks perfection. Seven resonates with the attributes of spiritual awakening, and seeks to break free of any recurring patterns that lower our vibrations. Seven is a deeply mystical and spiritual number. It relates to taking time to retreat into solitude; to search our souls and to reach our hidden depths. It appears we may have our distant relatives to thank for numbers. With their relatively large brains, Neanderthals are credited for inventing language, art and were the first to count, or think in numbers. Around 38,000BCE one common design found in rock art was a series of seven dots or parallel lines, believed to have had sacred significance.

EIGHT

Is the number of success of expansion and opportunity. Some caution will be needed, with projects nearing completion. Eight is generous and warm-hearted, open, spontaneous, creative, outgoing, more broad-minded, accepting and loving, confident, self-sufficient and self-sacrificing. The number 8 resonates with all peoples of the world. In China it represents harmony, prosperity and the Cosmos. In Egypt it is the number of Thoth - the wisdom keeper. In Greece it is represents Hermes - the God of sacred geometry. For the Romans it represented freedom and equality. To Buddhists it means ‘completion of all possibilities’ and the ‘8 Fold Path’. To Hindus 8 x 8 is the order of the celestial world established on Earth. In Jewish tradition it stands for perfect intelligence and splendour. To Christians it symbolises regeneration, rebirth and the ‘beatitude’s’. To Muslims 8 is the throne, which encompasses the world, supported by 8 angels, corresponding to the 8 divisions of space and the groups of letters in the Arabic Alphabet. Spiritually, 8 is the goal of the initiate, having passed through the seven heavens, thus, it is the number of Paradise regained; regeneration; resurrection; perfect rhythm. There are 8 winds, 8 directions and 8 spokes in the ‘wheel of time’. The Bible says ‘first there was sound’ and there are 8 notes in an octave. Visually 8 depicts ‘as above so below’ and on its side it mirrors the symbol for infinity (see Symbology). Eight is the Number of Karma, the spiritual law of cause and effect. As we take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings and actions, the results we manifest in our lives and the world we live in, then so we create the clarity necessary to change. In the tarot, the Major Arcana card of 8 is strength so as we connect to our inner strength, wisdom, vision and desire to expand our spiritual consciousness, we create peace, balance and harmony within ourselves and our earth.

NINE

Is about the end of a cycle which automatically incorporates rebirth. It is endings and beginnings. It is about completing the growth of this current cycle by reviewing our lives and letting go, clearing the way for new beginnings, personally, nationally and globally. Nine stands for, humanitarianism, compassion, philanthropy, idealism and tolerance. Nine is both self-sacrificing and self-sufficient in its march towards progress and the fulfilment of our personal and collective vision. It holds the spiral of happy returns because all numbers multiplied by 9 always reduce back to 9 thus symbolising the return to the source.

TEN
