This article describes the seven layers of the aura and is part 1a of a series of articles on the Body’s Energy System. There are seven layers of the aura and each has a different function.
Seven Layers of the Aura
The Physical Body – which is the densest and connects to the base chakra. We naturally assume it’s our body that creates the energy field, however actually, it’s the other way around. Our physical body being the final manifestation into the physical plane or our spiritual being. We are after all spiritual beings having a human physical life. The healthier we are physically the more universal energy flows effortlessly through us creating harmony and balance in our bodies and our lives.
The Etheric Body Layer 1 - This is the densest of the subtle fields and is our electromagnetic body. It exists within us around every cell and stores (or not) our vitality. It emanates three to five inches around the physical body and is associated with the sacral chakra.
Emotional Body Layer 2 - Extends between six to nine inches from the body and has no spatial limits. It’s associated with feelings about the self and desire, which master us if we cannot control them. All the chakras except the crown and root open onto this level, which carries karmas memory, especially of an emotional nature. It’s generally associated with the solar plexus chakra.
Mental Body Layer 3 – Lies about nine to twelve inches from the body. It’s concerned with our rational and mental activity which of course constantly changes. Our thoughts also have a direct relationship to how we feel so this layer is associated with the solar plexus chakra as well as the throat chakra. Negative thought forms attract negativity; positive thought forms attract positive influences in our lives. This layer holds all we have learned in our lifetime.
Astral Layer 4 - The Astral layer extends twelve inches or more away from the body and connects to the heart chakra. It’s associated with love and acts as a bridge between the lower chakras connecting us to this physical life and the higher chakras of our spiritual being. This is where all Intuitive activity takes place. A great deal of subconscious interaction takes place on this level where there is no division between the soul and the personality.
Spiritual or Etheric Layer 5 - This layer extends about two to three feet from the physical body and relates to the interaction of the personality and the soul. This is the level of Divine Will containing the unfolding evolutionary patterns of all life force. It is the level of symbols. This aspect of consciousness benefits from learning to trust. This is the level we all “tune into” when we sense something such as “we like them or not” or if we feel something is “wrong”. This happens in all our interactions with others, at all times, not just when we are “trying” which is for some reason when it never seems to work. Our personality is the combination of all our life patterns both learned from our life’s experiences and inherited in our DNA and cultire. This level reflects our everyday emotional and mental state.
Celestial Layer 6 – this level is subtler and relates to our finer feelings, or as some say our divine qualities such as, unconditional love, compassion, courage and to our higher aspirations. It’s the plane of meditation rather than just thought, of contemplation rather than analysis. It extends much further away from the body and can be as far as five feet. It’s the level at which we connect to energy from other dimensions such as the 4th dimension where deceased loved ones and spirit guides reside. It’s the level of inspiration and the template for feelings about the self. This level is connected to the brow chakra. The soul is nourished at this level by the beauty of nature, music, art, meditation and prayer. Feelings of appreciation, honor, respect and gratitude are essential to attain this level of consciousness.
Ketheric or Causal Layer 7 – this is the layer connecting to the crown chakra and universal energy and conciousness. At this layer we can experience spiritual ecstasy, the point of “being” when we know our connection with the universe. This is the layer of divine love. It’s also the mental level of the spiritual plane. This layer can extend far and wide. It’s connected to the crown chakra but at this level both the crown and root chakras will be open. When our consciousness reaches this level we are at one with the creator. It’s the strongest and most resilient layer, containing the main power current that runs up and down the spine nourishing the whole body. This is the layer of pure creative thought. At this level of consciousness we understand the perfect pattern of things (as above so below) and become enlightened. This layer also contain your ‘astral data bank’ for this lifetime, commonly known as your soul’s purpose or life’s purpose.
All these layers connect to our chakras and our meridians. The final article will explain how they all fit together.
