Base Chakra I Root (I) – Muladhara
Location: This extends from just below the pubic bone to about halfway down the thighs. It has the slowest rate of rotation and is concerned with our survival within the physical plane. It connects us to the planet.
Governs : This centre tells about the Evolutionary cycle the person is going through. Each cycle lasts about 2 ½ years and relates to a specific set of learning experiences that the individual must pass through vis a vis internally and through what they attract externally.
Psychic Function: Physical Plane. Survival.
Developmental Age: 0-2/3 years (They think the whole world revolves around them, becoming aware of separateness).
Glands/Organs: Adrenal Glands. Located above the kidneys in the mid-back. The adrenal glands govern fight/flight reactivity for survival in the physical world. This is the only chakra where the endocrine gland is not directly over the chakra’s physical zone. It is responsible for the elimination of solid waste. The metaphor relates to eliminating things that are no longer useful, letting go so it governs, Kidneys, colon, spinal column, legs and bones.
Out of Balance Fear, overly concerned with material security. Jungle mentality, airy-fairy-not-really-here people. Feeling unsafe, lack of security, no sense of belonging.
Body Symptoms Problems in kidneys, rectum, hips, bowel spasm, piles, colitis, Crohn's disease, constipation, IBS.
Qualities and lessons Matters relating to the material world, security, success. The physical body, mastery of the body, grounding, individuality, stability, security, stillness, health, courage and patience.
Negative Qualities: Self-centred, insecurity, violence, greed, anger. Overly concerned with one’s physical survival. Tension in the spine.
Soul Issue: To acknowledge the soul inhabits a body that is part of the living universe. Through the body the soul is brought into matter and through the body the soul experiences.
Element: Earth
Gems & Minerals: Ruby, garnet, bloodstone, red jasper, black tourmaline, obsidian, smoky quartz.
Associated Oils: Benzoine, patchouli, vetivert
Associated Angels: Sandlephon, Uriel, Earth Angels
Psychological: If you can see astral colours, then whatever colour(s) is/are present in the chakra will describe the types of experiences that person is attracting to them in detail. It also tells about the basic health constitution of the individual. If it is large, strong and energetic, then their constitution is strong, but if it is weak, then they are constitutionally vulnerable. The energy state also tells how grounded that person is.
Colour & State The colour red bears a metaphorical relationship to this centre in that red represents pure energy. It is the lowest vibrational frequency of the spectrum and is hot, dense and physical. It also represents fight or flight and nervous irritability. Too much red is overstimulating.
