The purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness of charity related activities all over the world. Charity, in of itself provides real social bonding and creates more resilient societies whilst taking care of those less fortunate than ourselves.
Charities both local and international send aid to the worst affected areas of the world during times of humanitarian crises. They supplement public services in health care, education, housing and child protection.
The International Day of Charity was established with the objective of sensitizing and mobilizing people and stakeholders around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.
Its aims are to:
Raise awareness and push for collective action in global issues
Enhance trust among groups & build social capital and to enhance a sense of responsibility for our local community. (This was wonderfully displayed during the Covid 19 crisis in the UK with local people looking after each other).
Create cohesion by eliminating societal & cultural barriers
September 5th commemorates the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who, in 1979 received the Nobel Peace Prize for her work overcoming hunger and poverty which constitutes a real threat to peace.
