Pioneer Day is a state holiday in Utah in the United States. It celebrates the arrival in 1847 of Bigham Young and the pioneers who first settled in what is now Salt Lake City.

Acitivities

Activities include parades, picnics, rodeos and other festivities throughout the state. Children take part in school projects about pioneers, while families enjoy the day with concerts and festivals. For the parades, many people may wear costumes resembling 19th Century cloths as worn by the pioneers themselves. Pioneer Day is also celebrated in many parts of Idaho, where it is more commonly known as Celebration Day.
