8th May is VE day (Victory in Europe)marking the ending of the world war II in Europe. Every year there are many celebrations. Some will take place and there are many things happening on-line but finding them might be a problem. But there are lots of national events as well.
What was it like
Times must have been much harder then than they are now even with the current Corvid 19 restriction. At least we haven't have to endure rationing (except for loo rolls of course). My parents both went out to celebrate on the night as did The Queen and Princess Margaret. It must have been a great celebration. If it wasn't for the sacrifice of all those young men and women at that time we would not be enjoying the freedom we do today and can enjoy again tomorrow
Needless to say there will be lots of programmes on TV and people have been encouraged to hold 1940s style tea parties at home and to share them on social media.
