The International Day of Biological Diversity, held on 22nd May each year, sets out to encourage the global community to re-examine our relationship with the natural world. Our planet is so diverse and we rely on it for everything we need and as such we need to look after it and all the diverse life forms which inhabit it.
Covid 19
Covid 19 gave us the opportunity to reflect and in this technological age find solutions. We each have an opportunity to “Build Back Better” by building on this time of global co-operation to build a strong global framework that will slow the loss and “bend the curve” on biodiversity loss for the benefit of all life on Earth.
We are after all completely dependant upon our ecosystems for our food, water, clothes, energy, and medicines for our health. We must find ways of sustainable farming, fishing and all other forms of feeding ourselves whereby we do not end up polluting and ridding the world of the very things we need to sustain us. The slogan “Our solutions are in nature” emphasises hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature.
