The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is a tribute to all those who serve and have served UN peacekeeping forces as well as those who died for peace. The day was first observed on 29th May 2003 but came about when the United Nationals Supervision Organisation was founded on that date in 1948.
Founded to assist peacekeepers
It was founded to assist peacekeepers to observe and maintain the cease-fire marking the end of the fighting between the newly founded state of Israel and the Arab League Nations which started after the end of the British Mandate of Palestine in 1948.
