31st October was declared World Cities Day by the UN on December 27th 2013 but why? "Its aim is to create awareness of the role of urbanization in global sustainable development and social inclusion". Apparantly "Cities are increasingly the home of humanity. They are central to climate action, global prosperity, peace and human rights," stated Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary-General.
The UN's aim is to make our cities, inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. However, according to the UN, inequalities in cities have grown since 1980. The largest cities are also where you often find the greatest diversity of people.
Urbanization
With continuing Urbanization there is a gradual shift of people looking for work from rural to urban areas.
However with Covid this year and the technology revolution making working from home so much easier, many people are rethinking their lives and seeking to move to more rural areas again.
