World Environment Day is popularly known as “People’s Day” where people show, share their protection, care and support for our truly beautiful world. In 1972 the UN General Assembly marked the opening of the Conference in Stockholm on the Human Environment as World Environment Day. Every year it is hosted by a different city throughout the week of 5th June.
First organised in 1974
It has been the major campaign vehicle for raising awareness for environmental issues from human population expansion, marine pollution, global warming, wildlife crime and sustainable consumption.
Many countries organise their own parades and rallies as well as sponsoring clean-up campaigns and lots of tree planting.
World Environment Day is celebrated in over 143 countries worldwide andis hosted by a different country each year.
