Suicide prevention remains a universal challenge. It is estimated over 800,000 people take their own life each year, which equates to one person every 40 seconds. It touches all our lives as most of us have had personal experience of either knowing someone who has committed suicide or feeling suicidal ourselves.
This year’s theme for World Suicide Prevention day is 'Working Together to Prevent Suicide.'
WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY, is not only to raise the awareness of the number of suicides which take place in the world each day but also it creates an opportunity for all sectors of the community, political, professional, charitable, volunteers and families bereaved by suicide, to focus public attention on the needs of people at risk of suicide, especially with the mental health issues being faced by many during this ongoing Covid 19 crisis.
Initiatives which actively educate and involve people are likely to be most effective in helping people learn new information about suicide and suicide prevention. Examples of activities supporting World Suicide Prevention Day include:
Cycling Around the Globe where we can all do our little bit.
