Why have a World Toilet Day I asked myself when I came across this one. But did you know that over 2.5 billion people have no access to sanitation? Thinking back through my lifetime I can easily see how sanitation has changed and improved just in Europe. Travelling around the world to far distant places can bring home exactly how this could be even in this modern day and age. Apparently globally 6 billion people have a mobile phone whereas only 4.5 billion have access to toilets or latrines especially in rural areas.
Officially recognised in 2013
According to the UK "provision of proper toilet facilities could save the lives of more than 200,000 children thoughout the world". In 2013 the UN officially recognised November 19 as World Toilet Day in a bid to make sanitation for all a global development priority.
