Ramadan

Ramadhan is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims will fast from dawn to dusk throughout the entire month. It is a time to purify the soul, to re-evaluate their lives and to make peace with those who they may have wronged. To refocus their attention on God and practice self-sacrifice. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars (fundamental religious duties) of Islam

During the nights of this month, Muslims attend special night prayers at the Mosque. Some Muslims will perform spiritual seclusion, known as I’tikaaf, in the Mosque throughout the final ten days of this sacred month. The odd nights of the last ten nights are the holiest nights of the entire month.

End of Ramadan

Eid al Fitr is a celebration, not of the end of daytime fasting during Ramadan but a celebration to thank Allah for giving them the strength to practice the self-control necessary for the Ramadan fast which includes nothing to eat or drink during daylight hours.

The festival is often celerated with music and dancing in the streets and of course fireworks, so if you have a nervous pet. Stay in with them.  In some countries such as the United Arab Emerites the festival is 5 days long

The Islamic Calendar is a Luna Calender and thus the dates and times change every year and are sometimes different in different parts of the world. The festival begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky and proceeds through the following day.
